Five fun facts! — so you can get to know me better…

  1. 🌀 I worked in an upholstery shop for 14 years and have a keen interest in interior design.
  2. 🌀 I sold my first artwork in tenth grade. It was a bird painted on a candle.
  3. 🌀 I once painted King Kong holding a wrecker on the doors of a huge wrecker that hauled normal-sized wreckers!
  4. 🌀 When I lived on Vandenberg Air Force Base in Lompoc, California, I created a website called Lompoc Online that was popular with the locals. That was in 1999 before there were blogs. (You can still see it on the Wayback Machine.)
  5. 🌀 I made a healthy, homemade food for our dog, Griffy, that enabled him to walk up the stairs again, plus his eyes lost their foggy old-age look. My friends wanted to eat what Griffy was eating!

These days I’m working on a collection of paintings called Black & White and another called Meditative Journeys. The Rocky Stream painting, above, is a finished work from the Meditative Journeys collection. It’s already residing in its new home!

When I’m not painting you can find me Urban Poling in the local park or experimenting with whole food, plant-based recipes.

What I’m working on now…

This picture shows the first layer of paint on the large (36″x48″) acrylic painting I’m currently working on. I’ll apply several layers of paint to achieve a distressed, weathered look. My vision is to create an interesting abstract composition in comforting warm shades of caramel, mocha, coffee and vanilla. Hmmm… makes me want to take a latte break!

I work on several paintings at a time, usually in the same colors. That way, if there’s extra paint at the end of a session, I can use it on another painting and not waste it. Working this way also harmonizes the pieces and helps me unite them into a collection.

This is the studio I’ve set up in my garage after a recent move. I covered the walls with butcher paper and plastic and put down a rug to protect the floor. We’re expecting some hot weather so I got a portable air conditioner to make the space more comfortable but haven’t set it up yet.

A stopping point…

This big painting on the easel is the main painting I’m working on now. The look I want hasn’t emerged yet, and I’m not sure how to get it to there.

As you can see, I’ve done more work on this painting since the first picture, above. I know the look I’m aiming for, but still have to think about the steps needed to get it there.

This is probably a good time to take a break.

I’ll come back tomorrow and take another look. By then I’ll probably have come up with a way to bring it closer to my vision.

At any rate, the painting won’t be finished until I get the warm, all-over harmonized look that I’m after.

I’ll post more pictures as this work progresses.

I’m thinking of calling it, “The Vortex”.
